Jiri, I do believe your changelogs are not very helpful ...
Oh wait, maybe you forgot to _include_ them ?

Well, I tried to explain that in subject. I think that most of patches
are very local so additional description would be redundant. Truth is
that I could comment "net: introduce rx_handler results and logic around
that" or perhaps "bonding: move processing of recv handlers into
handle_frame()" more.
/me thinks that he needs to learn how to write novels...
Anyway. I can repost with some more text if you like.

* [PATCH net-next 0/4] r8169 driver updates
From: Francois Romieu @ 2011-03-05 9:37 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: davem; +Cc: netdev, Hayes Wang, Jesse Gross, Oliver Neukum, dwmw2,
Ben Hutchings
Please pull from branch 'davem-next.r8169' in repository
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/romieu/netdev-2.6.git davem-next.r8169
to get the changes below.
- the firmware for the 8105 has been submitted to the linux-firmware.git tree
(pending inclusion). It is not mandatory. I have checked the usual
{ monolithic / modular } {with / without} firmware combinations with a
RTL8105E-VC (RTL_GIGA_MAC_VER_29). The usual limitation with firmware +
suspend/resume still apply (see f1e02ed109df5f99abf942b8ccc99960cb09dd38).
- I have updated Oliver's patch - mostly for merge conflicts - and fixed a
bug in my version of 2011/01/04. I have not forgotten mac pause control
frames control (Ben's suggestion). It's just a bit lower priority now.
- VLAN does not ask for special comment. It's very sky2 like.

* [patch net-next-2.6 2/8] bonding: register slave pointer for rx_handler
From: Jiri Pirko @ 2011-03-05 10:29 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: netdev
Cc: davem, shemminger, kaber, fubar, eric.dumazet, nicolas.2p.debian,

In-Reply-To: <1299320969-7951-1-git-send-email-jpirko@redhat.com>
Register slave pointer as rx_handler data. That would eventually prevent
need to loop over slave devices to find the right slave.
Use synchronize_net to ensure that bond_handle_frame does not get slave
structure freed when working with that.

This patchset focuses mainly bonding rx path changes.
Depends on "fcoe: correct checking for bonding"
Jiri Pirko (8):
af_packet: use skb->skb_iif instead of orig_dev->ifindex
bonding: register slave pointer for rx_handler
net: get rid of multiple bond-related netdevice->priv_flags
bonding: wrap slave state work
bonding: get rid of IFF_SLAVE_INACTIVE netdev->priv_flag
bonding: move processing of recv handlers into handle_frame()
net: introduce rx_handler results and logic around that
net: get rid of orig_dev parameter of packet handlers

Now when bond-related code is moved from net/core/dev.c into bonding

Since bond-related code was moved from net/core/dev.c into bonding,
IFF_SLAVE_INACTIVE is no longer needed. Replace is with flag "inactive"
stored in slave structure

* [patch net-next-2.6 6/8] bonding: move processing of recv handlers into handle_frame()
From: Jiri Pirko @ 2011-03-05 10:29 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: netdev
Cc: davem, shemminger, kaber, fubar, eric.dumazet, nicolas.2p.debian,

In-Reply-To: <1299320969-7951-1-git-send-email-jpirko@redhat.com>
Since now when bonding uses rx_handler, all traffic going into bond
device goes thru bond_handle_frame. So there's no need to go back into
bonding code later via ptype handlers. This patch converts
original ptype handlers into "bonding receive probes". These functions
are called from bond_handle_frame and they are registered per-mode.

* [patch net-next-2.6 7/8] net: introduce rx_handler results and logic around that
From: Jiri Pirko @ 2011-03-05 10:29 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: netdev

In-Reply-To: <1299320969-7951-1-git-send-email-jpirko@redhat.com>
This patch allows rx_handlers to better signalize what to do next to
it's caller. That makes skb->deliver_no_wcard no longer needed.

* [patch net-next-2.6 8/8] net: get rid of orig_dev parameter of packet handlers
From: Jiri Pirko @ 2011-03-05 10:29 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: netdev
Cc: davem, shemminger, kaber, fubar, eric.dumazet, nicolas.2p.debian,
andy
In-Reply-To: <1299320969-7951-1-git-send-email-jpirko@redhat.com>
Since orig_dev was used in af_packet (where it was replaced) and by
bonding ptype handlers (which are no longer with us) only, orig_dev
parameter is no longer needed -> toss it out

Confirming this fixes the problem I reported with IPv4 over PPP as well, thanks.

Hi,
I was asked to submit following pull request for net-next-2.6/linux-2.6.39. It
contains Marek's hard work (and of course related work by other people) to
remove the orig_hash (aka the batman-adv private "big kernel lock").
There are also smaller cleanups by Marek, Jesper Juhl and Linus Luessing which
remove some unused variables, includes and irritating naming schemes.
thanks,
Sven
