This patch doesn't fix my hang.

However git contains also:
sky2: fix hang in napi_disable
This is the one fixing my case.

So the bug is resolved, however I'm a little disappointed noone
ping-ed me about that patches. I've spent some time on bisecting this
issue, expected to get some response :/

Stephen, two comments to you:

1) I really hoped to get some info about resolving this issue. You
could just ping me that something worth testing was posted.

2) Update your e-mail address in MAINTAINERS please.

I mostly agree with Jamal. As far as the concept of a policy
lookup cache goes (which appears to be at the core of OVS), this
almost fits exactly onto a u32 hash table. All that would be needed
is to add the tail end of the policies, e.g., with new packet
actions.

However, this is purely based on my conceptual view of OVS, which
may or may not be accurate. I'll dig into the patches over the
next couple of days to see if they could be easily turned into
packet actions or whether this is difficult for reasons that we
have not yet discovered.

Cheers,

According to Amir, who reports this problem patch fix the performance
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=658451),
from very bad to expected on wifi link. It can be explained, if we
disable interrupt line, driver still operate, but read TX/RX statuses
from hardware when internal driver watchdog timeout. Hence we operate,
but very slow. If we prevent to disable interrupt by IRQ controller
driver, device operate normally.

The main problem here, that we have hardware (or firmware) that
generate interrupt with empty interrupt status register, so we can
not detect if interrupt is really generated by Ralink device.

Perhaps exist good fix for that problem, i.e. we can write to some
register to stop hardware generating spurious interrupts, or exist
other way than reading status register to find out if Ralink device
generated interrupt. But that require detailed hardware knowledge,
and I'm not sure if we ever can get such informations. Also this
could be a hardware bug, device just generate spurious interrupts
and we can not do anything about it. I looked at driver from Ralink
site, and it do exactly that, it return IRQ_HANDLED if status register
is empty.

Ok, I'm thinking about other fix now ...

I agree 100%, I am verry sorry this happened.

Stephen, we must show toal respect to bug reporters, they do their part
of the job.

We need more bug reports :)

A "Reported-by:" tag is mandatory, not counting a CC on mails

As Rafal spent incredible time to bisect the bug, another tag is welcome
as well :

"Bisected-by:" ...

This takes maybe 20 seconds, while the bug fix took far more...

I had no time to look at OVS, but current tc model is not scalable,
everything is performed under a queue lock.

Maybe its time to redesign a new model, based on modern techniques.

By the way, we seriously lack good documentation on tc, not counting
many features. Code might be there, but without documenation, working
samples, who can use it ?

Take a look at last cls_flow extension, and try to use it on a real
setup, you'll find its almost not possible...

Of course he is.  :)

I think your patch should be submitted to fix the warning. I'd send it

This is re-calculated for every xmit. Is it required to be that way?
May be you can pre-calculate it and just assign / add it to the
control-flags here.

Indeed, I pointed this out numerous times over the past few years :)

However, this is something that we need to solve regardless of
whether OVS is added, since OVS isn't exactly going to replace the
packet scheduling layer.

lartc.org is surprisingly good. But yes new features won't show
up there unless somebody contributes time to write it up.

Unfortunately while many love documentation, few are willing to
pay for it.

I am not sure that it does what you intends.
mnemonic is an array and a malicious use may fill it upto the last char
causing strlen go beyond. perhaps this may help:
	nr_route.mnemonic[sizeof(nr_route.mnemonic)-1]=0;
this of cause makes the if() redundant.

>  		if ((dev = nr_ax25_dev_get(nr_route.device)) == NULL)

while you are here:

	dev = nr_ax25_dev_get(nr_route.device);
	if ( dev == NULL )
		return -EINVAL;

>  		if (nr_route.ndigis < 0 || nr_route.ndigis > AX25_MAX_DIGIS) {

if guess "nr_route.ndigis >= AX25_MAX_DIGIS" is intended ?

hope that helps,

* [PATCH] ipv4: Save nexthop address of LSRR/SSRR option to IPCB.
From: Li Wei @ 2011-11-23 9:33 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: David S. Miller; +Cc: netdev

We can not update iph->daddr in ip_options_rcv_srr(), It is too early.
When some exception ocurred later (eg. in ip_forward() when goto
sr_failed) we need the ip header be identical to the original one as
ICMP need it.

Add a field 'nexthop' in struct ip_options to save nexthop of LSRR
or SSRR option.

Today i played with openvswitch on my workstation with kernel 2.6.40 and found that it break when i built. The issue is introduced by commit ceb176fdb72bb7ce90debc66e1eeb1d25823d30a

After this patch is applied, i can successfully do one build and be happy to see that multiple VMs can communicate with each other.

* [PATCH 1/2] ehea: Reduce memory usage in buffer pools
From: Anton Blanchard @ 2011-11-23 10:13 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: cascardo; +Cc: netdev

Now that we enable multiqueue by default the ehea driver is using
quite a lot of memory for its buffer pools. With 4 queues we
consume 64MB in the jumbo packet ring, 16MB in the medium packet
ring and 16MB in the tiny packet ring.

We should only fill the jumbo ring once the MTU is increased but
for now halve it's size so it consumes 32MB. Also reduce the tiny
packet ring, with 4 queues we had 16k entries which is overkill.

I don't like it either, but it seemed like an acceptable idea when I
first wrote it, compared to the options.
But I'm happy it was strongly pointed out, I gave this some extra
thought, and managed to come up with a more elegant solution for this.
Unfortunately, right now I still have some very small tcp glue code I am
trying to get rid of - maybe the suggestion you give below can be used

In the patch I have now, I changed cg_proto's role a bit. It now have
pointers to the variables directly as well, and a parent pointer. It
allows much of the code to be simplified, and the remainder to live
outside memcontrol.c without major problems.

But I still need a tcp control structure and a method to calculate its
address from a mem_cgroup structure.

This has the disadvantage that we now have to chase one more pointer
(for sub_controls) instead of just accessing tcp_memcontrol directly as in

struct mem_cgroup {
	...
	struct tcp_memcontrol tcp;
};

I see how it would be nice to get rid of all tcp references, but I don't
think the above is worse that bundling struct tcp_memcontrol in an union.
We also now have to allocate mem_cgroup_subcontrols separately, creating
another opportunity of failure (that's not the end of the world, but
allocating it all inside memcg is still preferred, IMHO)

This could work if it was more generic than that, with a data pointer,
instead of an union. But then we now have 3 pointers to chase.
My worry here is that we'll end up with a performance a lot worse than
the raw network. Well, of course we'll be worse, but in the end of the
day, we also want to be as fast as we can.

I wonder how bad it is to have just a tiny glue that calculates the
address of the tcp structure in memcontrol.c, and then every other user
is passed that structure?

Where do these values come from ? If they are from some 'standard' then
really we should avoid restricting needlessly to it, particularly as
AX.25 isn't well defined and is used for all sorts of crazy stuff where
the usual range of settings isn't useful.

Restricting to the point it would overflow makes sense however.

* [PATCH 1/6] SUNRPC: handle RPC client pipefs dentries by network namespace aware routines
From: Stanislav Kinsbursky @ 2011-11-23 11:51 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: bfields, Trond.Myklebust
  Cc: linux-nfs, xemul, neilb, netdev, linux-kernel, jbottomley, davem,
	devel
In-Reply-To: <20111123104945.11077.10270.stgit@localhost6.localdomain6>

This patch makes RPC clients PipeFs dentries allocations in it's owner network
namespace context.
RPC client pipefs dentries creation logic has been changed:
1) Pipefs dentries creation by sb was moved to separated function, which will
be used for handling PipeFS mount notification.
2) Initial value of RPC client PipeFS dir dentry is set no NULL now.

RPC client pipefs dentries cleanup logic has been changed:
1) Cleanup is done now in separated rpc_remove_pipedir() function, which takes
care about pipefs superblock locking.

Also this patch removes slashes from cb_program.pipe_dir_name and from
NFS_PIPE_DIRNAME to make rpc_d_lookup_sb() work. This doesn't affect
vfs_path_lookup() results in nfs4blocklayout_init() since this slash is cutted
off anyway in link_path_walk().
