Cast __wsum from/to __sum16 is wrong.  Instead, apply appropriate
conversion function: csum_unfold() or csum_fold().

[ The original patch has been modified to undo the final ~ that
  csum_fold returns. We only need to fold the 32-bit word that
  results from the checksum calculation into a 16-bit to ensure
  that the original subnet is restored appropriately. Spotted by
  Ulrich Weber. ]

In our test lab, we have a simple SCTP client connecting to a SCTP
server via an IPVS load balancer. On some machines, load balancing
works, but on others the initial handshake just fails, thus no
SCTP connection whatsoever can be established!

We observed that the SCTP INIT-ACK handshake reply from the IPVS
machine to the client had a correct IP checksum, but corrupt SCTP
checksum when forwarded, thus on the client-side the packet was
dropped and an intial handshake retriggered until all attempts
run into the void.

To fix this issue, this patch i) adds a missing CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARY
after the full checksum (re-)calculation (as done in IPVS TCP and UDP
code as well), ii) calculates the checksum in little-endian format
(as fixed with the SCTP code in commit 4458f04c: sctp: Clean up sctp
checksumming code) and iii) refactors duplicate checksum code into a
common function. Tested by myself.

The following patchset contains Netfilter/IPVS fixes for 3.8-rc7, they are:

* Fix oops in IPVS state-sync due to releasing a random memory area due
  to unitialized pointer, from Dan Carpenter.

* Fix SCTP flow establishment due to bad checksumming mangling in IPVS,
  from Daniel Borkmann.

* Three fixes for the recently added IPv6 NPT, all from YOSHIFUJI Hideaki,
  with an amendment collapsed into those patches from Ulrich Weber. They
  fiix adjustment calculation, fix prefix mangling and ensure LSB of
  prefixes are zeroes (as required by RFC).

Specifically, it took me a while to validate the 1's complement arithmetics/
checksumming approach in the IPv6 NPT code.

It's fairly late stage, so let me know if you can still pull these from:

Yes, your eventfd change is probably the best way if you want/need
to only watch a subset of your sockets, especially if you want
poll/select to be an option.

* [PATCH RESEND] net: fec_mpc52xx: Read MAC address from device-tree

Until now, the MPC5200 FEC ethernet driver relied upon the bootloader
(U-Boot) to write the MAC address into the ethernet controller
registers. The Linux driver should not rely on such a thing. So
lets read the MAC address from the DT as it should be done here.

This fixes a problem with a MPC5200 board that uses the SPL U-Boot
version without FEC initialization before Linux booting for
boot speedup.

Additionally a status line will now be printed upon successful
driver probing, also displaying this MAC address.

Ah. Got you! You mean not to change the kernel, just use pipe for the 
purpose.

However, the convoluted pipe-style design is the problem I am trying to 
solve rather than the solution. It leads to convoluted APIs with 
convoluted semantics as described in the article. I've been using that 
kind of design for past 8 years and every time I have to deal with it I 
swear that one day I will implement a proper in-kernel solution to get 
rid of the hack.

And now I have finally done so.

* [PATCH 0/2] Multiple VLAN Registration Protocol (IEEE 802.1Q-2011)

The Linux kernel currently implements the GARP VLAN Registration
Protocol (GVRP) from IEEE 802.1Q-1998 (applicant-only participant).
When the GVRP flag is set for a VLAN interface on a Linux host, the
host advertises its membership in the VLAN to the attached bridge/
switch, so that it is not necessary to manually configure the bridge/
switch port to participate in the VLAN.

GVRP has been superseded by the Multiple VLAN Registration Protocol
(MVRP) in IEEE 802.1Q-2011, which addresses scalability concerns about
the earlier protocol.  The following patches add support for MVRP to
the Linux kernel and iproute2 utility. They are based largely off of
the existing implementation of GVRP, but have been modified for the
new PDU structure and state machine.

This implementation was tested with two Juniper EX4200 switches.

I have no idea, I haven't gotten to reviewing your changes yet, and
I will do so at a time of my own choosing.  Pressing me about the matter

Wasteful in what sense? Occupying a slot in file descriptor table? 
That's the price for having the socket uniquely identified by the fd.

Whenever I want to avoid matters of MTU, I try going with a test that 
never sends anything larger than the smaller of the MTUs involved.  One 
such example might be (aggregate) netperf TCP_RR tests.  Matters of path 
length have a much more difficult time "hiding" from a TCP_RR (or 
UDP_RR) test than a bulk transfer test.

Another thing to consider is the default MTU value :

65536 for lo, and 1500 for veth

It easily explains half performance for veth

One another thing is the tx-nocache-copy setting, this can explain some
extra percents.

As Andy mentioned in another e-mail, we would like very much to get
vsock in 3.9 release, so now that it is split into hypervisor neutral
and transport parts is there any high level issues that we need to
resolve before the code can be accepted?

If so, there are many more of these OOM messages
that could be removed.
