Just like any other "bus" or "layer" for drivers, you should
really just send the networking bits my way.

Now, in situations where some generic vhost infrastructure is
necessary for a vhost-net specific change, that might be a
situation where we can merge the infrastructure change into
my tree so that the networking bits can go in too.

I've reproduced this in the lab.

I can confirm this patch fixes per-queue statistics (ie. ethtool -S
"[0]: tx_bytes") - which previously were not monotonically increasing.
However there is still a bug wrt. global device stats (ie. ethtool -S
"tx_bytes" and /proc/net/dev transmit bytes).
I'm guessing there's another similar bug later on during aggregation.

I expect to find the offending code and send out a patch soon.

We are sharing quite a bit of code, so it's a common tree.
There was a vhost-net patch there too but you picked it up
directly so I dropped that and what's left is vhost-scsi.
Typically vhost-net dominates so I'm just used to merging all vhost
things through you but if you think it's wrong I can send it directly to
Linus.

Or "m". But indeed, it should be made to automatically work for

In case it isn't clear, I want you to use GPL exports for all of the
symbols exported from the new library.

I think there is a misunderstanding:

I was thinking just about the case where we change the mac address of
some interface without changing anything else (not changing link status):

Currently we don't generate any new ll address. I wondered if this is
correct. This e.g. happens if creating bridges with libvirt. It could
also be just a acceptable circumstance, I currently don't know. If people
depend on the mapping from mac address to ipv6 ll address perhaps this
is something that should be addressed.

Yes, we should - because if we're attaching to a new link, there might
be someone with a duplicate IPv6 address on it, so we'd need to
perform DAD.

I think the kernel does do this though. So in effect, every new link
you attach to gives you new IPv6 addresses, and never deletes them.
The old ones usually don't work on the new link, so you end up with
broken connectivity. Current solutions are either disable IPv6 or
start a userspace daemon to clean up the non-working addresses.

Not directly related, but I wonder if we should treat the change of the
mac address as a carrier change in ipv6 to create a new ll address. I
did not find any satisfying answer yet.

Ah sorry.

In my case the router lifetime is much shorter ( a few minutes ) and
expired by the time I get home, which is why I was only faced with the
"using bad source address" issue.

In anycase, following Dan's reponse, I just flush all ipv6 on suspend
now ... (NetworkManager was a bit heavy-weight to just sort that
particular issue ...)

Someone already sent me a similar patch, so this is already fixed in
bluetooth-next. No need to resubmit this one.

* [PATCH v2 net-next 3/5] VXLAN: Fix vxlan stats handling.
From: Pravin B Shelar @ 2013-03-18 18:13 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: davem; +Cc: stephen, xiyou.wangcong, netdev, jesse, Pravin B Shelar

Fixes bug in VXLAN code where is iptunnel_xmit() called with NULL
dev->tstats.
This bug was introduced in commit 6aed0c8bf7d2f389b (tunnel: use
iptunnel_xmit() again).

Following patch fixes bug by setting dev->tstats. It uses ip_tunnel
module code to share stats function.

* [PATCH v2 net-next 2/5] IPIP: Use ip-tunneling code.
From: Pravin B Shelar @ 2013-03-18 18:13 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: davem; +Cc: netdev, jesse, Pravin B Shelar

* [PATCH v2 net-next 1/5] GRE: Refactor GRE tunneling code.
From: Pravin B Shelar @ 2013-03-18 18:13 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: davem; +Cc: netdev, jesse, Pravin B Shelar

Following patch refactors GRE code into ip tunneling code and GRE
specific code. Common tunneling code is moved to ip_tunnel module.
ip_tunnel module is written as generic library which can be used
by different tunneling implementations.

ip_tunnel module contains following components:
 - packet xmit and rcv generic code. xmit flow looks like
   (gre_xmit/ipip_xmit)->ip_tunnel_xmit->ip_local_out.
 - hash table of all devices.
 - lookup for tunnel devices.
 - control plane operations like device create, destroy, ioctl, netlink
   operations code.
 - registration for tunneling modules, like gre, ipip etc.
 - define single pcpu_tstats dev->tstats.
 - struct tnl_ptk_info added to pass parsed tunnel packet parameters.

ipip.h header is renamed to ip_tunnel.h

* [PATCH v2 net-next 0/5] Tunneling: Tunnel restructuring.
From: Pravin B Shelar @ 2013-03-18 18:13 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: davem; +Cc: netdev, jesse, Pravin B Shelar

Following patch series restructure GRE and IPIP tunneling code
to make it modular. It adds ip_tunnel module which acts as
generic tunneling layer which has common code.

These patches do not change any functionality. I dropped patch
to convert gre_proto_lock to rtnl lock according t comment from
Stephen Hemminger.

Pravin B Shelar (5):
  GRE: Refactor GRE tunneling code.
  IPIP: Use ip-tunneling code.
  VXLAN: Fix vxlan stats handling.
VXLAN: Use IP Tunnels tunnel ENC encap API
Tunneling: use IP Tunnel stats APIs.

Please ignore this gratuitous stupidity.
The right patch was applied locally, the wrong one sent to the list.
I'll resubmit the proper one.

You do have to ensure that the file you modify
is actually compiled.

Sometimes it's easier to type make path/file.o

In any case, this is missing the statement terminating
semicolon after PTR_RET(bt_class).

The route doesn't expire either. (And neither does the default gateway).

Hi,

This might be a dumb idea but, would it make sense for the kernel not
to use as source address, an address generated from a prefix for which
the route has expired ? Like, I get a ra for 2001:1234::/64 prefix
with 2001:1234::1 gateway. If the gateway is lost, using
2001:1234::my_mac_address as source address with another gateway I got
from another RA with a different prefix is fairely unlikely to work
... (at least most access network I know filter that)

Cheers,

    Sylvain

There's no semicolon at the end of the return statement.

Sorry for the trouble caused and sorry for the late reply.
That being said, I'd like to understand a bit better what exactly I messed up.
I've just pulled the latest revision of the mainline kernel and made
the changes in this patch.
I've tried with make defconfig (which would be x86_64_defconfig in my
case), followed by
make menuconfig to select the bluetooth options and make allyesconfig.
Both defconfig and allyesconfig compile successfully on my system.
Would you be so kind as to tell me what error you have encountered?
Or perhaps enlighten me as to what I'm still doing wrong. I'd like to
learn from my mistakes.

Thanks,
Silviu Popescu
