I suspect this is for -j CONNMARK  --restore-mark / --save-mark ?

What would this do?

Something like

skb->mark = ct->mark >> $lshift; ?
ct->mark = skb->mark >> $lshift; ?

I don't really understand how this is supposed to work.
Could you elaborate a bit?
