[OE-core][kirkstone 00/34] Patch review

Please review this set of patches for kirkstone and have comments back by
end of day Tuesday.

Passed a-full on autobuilder:

with the exception of qemuarm-oe-core, which was due to operator error (this
test uses oe-core + bitbake repos and I neglected to push the corresponding
oe-core)
