And there's where you make a thinko ;) It's no a stable version, it's a
stable _branch_, so it gets fixes and things, but only _after_ being
reviewed by at least two people. Creating a tarball of that is
fundamentally no different as making a tarball from .dev: it's a
snapshot of a moment in time, while a stable branch aims to "not break,
keep working" during its lifetime.
