To reproduce the segfault:

Downolad the image of RedHat 7.0 boot floppy:

http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/7.0/en/os/i386/images/boot.img

Execute qemu with the following command line:

/usr/local/bin/qemu -fda boot.img -m 32 -boot a

Then press Enter in the boot loader screen. qemu will segfault. The
segfault does not happen with qemu-fast.

Any response will be appreciated, a fix will be appreciated even more.
The best is if you fix it and create a small testcase for regression tests.

It is fixed in the CVS version.

Fabrice.

Hello,
About the floppy, you said that it worked with qemu-fast.

I tried, and all I get from qemu-fast is a blank screen. I actually have never
been able to run anything with qemu-fast. Is there anything special you did
to have it run?

David

If I understood well, qemu-fast should only work (from now) with modified OS
=> Linux only. See Fabrice Documentation.
the good news is that there is only 2 line to modify. So, maybe, Windows could
be "patched" one day too.

No, I have just downloaded a binary distribution.

The bad thing is that qemu-fast cannot be compiled at all on my distro
(LFS CVS b6_0 branch) because of ld assertion failure. Binutils version
is 2.15.90.0.3, gcc is 3.3.3, glibc is a "known good CVS snapshot"
because there is no other way to get NPTL.

Just plain qemu works even if compiled from sources.
