QEMU Accelerator license is not ethical.
Open the code unless you have something to hide.

Karlos,
do you think it's ethical to attack Fabrice for his kernel module license
choice? Please consider what you've done for Qemu yourself, what Qemu
user/developers community gained from your work on Qemu. If you have not
provided anything, then please just think about it next time you're going
to attack somebody who provided a lot.
Thanks,
Karel

Don't use it if you don't like the license... the author has the right
to license it how he wants. Or... you can develop your own version, or
use/contribute to the open source alternative, qvm86.

To be honest, I'd be willing to PAY Fabrice for QEMU.
What else can I use to boot windows 2k on my sun blade 2000 at work?

I have never seen anyone say why KQEMU is closed, though, at least
beyond any speculation. And I've searched the mailing list archives at
Gmane, reading the long thread from when KQEMU was new and the various
threads since then.
I certainly respect that as the author of the code Fabrice has made that
choice, but I'd just be interested to know why.
QVM86 was a viable alternative in my mind, at least until KQEMU got
kernel-mode virtualization. Oh, well.

You're a troll, not because you don't use kqemu because you disagree
with its licence, but because instead of asking why is the code closed
or what are the conditions required to open it are, you said:

Who are you to define what is ethical? Do you belong to any ethical board?!

Who are you to order something? Fabrice develop it free to you, it
could be a paid addon... Have you though of it? You should consider
yourself lucky that someone develops such a great tool and gives it
away for free.
Think before you talk (write in this case), then people can take you
seriosly. Until then, I'm sorry, but you're a troll :p

I asked lot of times before my first email why its closed. Dont assume that i didnt it.
"Open the code unless you have something to hide." was an advice, not an order.
Everybody has an ethic, me too. And in my ethic this behavior is not ethic, im sorry.

Look, I'm subscribed to this list for more than two years now (since
at least 18/July/2004), and I've never seen a SINGLE message from you.
Fabrice already said he'd gladly open up the source for KQEMU IF, and
ONLY IF, some company would provide him solid funding. He's trying to
make a living there, you know?
People who were uncomfortable with the closed source status of KQEMU
then wrote qvm86. You don't like KQEMU's closed status? Then use
qvm86. It's that simple.
The source is closed because he so saw fit. It's his code, he CAN do
it. And it's been obviously reverse-engineered by anyone able to run
strace and objdump.
(p.s.: I'm not by any means implying that the qvm86 authors
reverse-engineered the closed part of KQEMU to derive qvm86's code. I
meant that anyone with some skill could have reverse-engineered KQEMU
enough [since it's so small] to check for any rogue/suspicious
activities).

Well it's not ethical to force someone to work against their wishes either.
And many would say it's not ethical to demand someone to license their
own work in a way they don't agree with.
So if _you_ don't agree with the Accelerator license, the ethical
thing for you to do, Karlos, is to write your own version of the
Accelerator and make it available with whatever license you think is
best.

Personally, I'd be willing to pay Fabrice for the Accelerator if it
were open source. But I don't pay for closed source software unless
it's unavoidable. But each is entitled to make their own decision,

I'd donate money to the cause of opening the accelerator code: for instance,
I'd pay towards a target "bounty" for the opening of the code. I imagine
others would too.
It is of course up to Fabrice whether he wants to do this: stable funding from
a distributor would obviously be much better and enable him to do more work
on QEmu in the future. I'm just pointing out there are other options open to
him if he wished to take them ;-)
Cheers,
Mark

Ok. Maybe English is not your first language.
To a native English speaker, the sentence you wrote is very clearly
written as an order.
If you want to advise, a way to write is is:
I think it would be better to open the code.
(And give reasons why).
