Hi,
Currently we have 2 vgabios: vgabios.bin and vgabios-cirrus.bin. Is
there any difference between them? Does one offer more features than
the other, or what?
I imagine that we have 2 vgabios because some OS prefers one to the
other, but cannot confirm that.
Many thanks,
Jun

I think the reason why we have two VGA BIOSes is because one is for
the original, non-cirrus VGA card, while the other one is for the
Cirrus card. The latter is used by default on I386.

But this still doesnt answer my question: what is the difference
between these two BIOS, and why I should use one but not the other.
Many thanks,
Jun

The vgabios.bin is designed for standard VGA with Bochs VBE (8 MB adapter that
doesn't exist as real hardware). The vgabios-cirrus.bin should be used for
the CL-GD5446 adapter. Qemu uses the Cirrus adapter and it's vgabios by
default, unless you use the -std-vga switch.
