C99 "7.1.3 Reserved identifiers" says:

  All identifiers that begin with an underscore and either an uppercase
  letter or another underscore are always reserved for any use

[by the standard library]

You can use a trailing underscore or useless word like "do", e.g.
virtio_do_set_features(), for internal functions.
