The original deprecation was listed in the qemu man page / online user guide, but this documentation gets deleted once the feature is actually removed. This wouldn't be so bad if we actually published versioned copies of the qemu manual online, but we just overwrite the manual each time there is a new release, so we've no historical record of deprecations.
