We hit this same problem in Libvirt Travis setup. Something changed in
either Travis or HomeBrew sometime between Dec 23rd and Jan 2nd.

We worked around the problem in libvirt by following the suggestion
above, thus adding

      before_script:
        # Hack to blow away py2
        - brew link --overwrite python
