This patch adds the STM32L4x5 RCC (Reset and Clock Control) device and is part
of a series implementing the STM32L4x5 with a few peripherals.

Due to the high number of lines, I tried to split the patch into several independent commits.
Each commit compiles on its own but I had to add temporary workarounds in intermediary commits to allow them to compile even if some functions are not used. However, they have been removed once the functions were used. Tell me if this is ok or if I should remove them.

Also, the tests are not very exhaustive for the moment. I have not found a way to test the clocks' frequency from the qtests, which limits severely the exhaustiveness of the tests.

Thanks to Philippe Mathieu-Daudé and Luc Michel for guiding me toward the hw/misc/bcm2835_cprman.c implementation and answering my questions about clock emulation in qemu !

Changes from v1 to v2:
- Removed a mention in the tests
- Added an early return to prevent a clang compilation error in rcc_update_pllsaixcfgr()

Changes from v2 to v3:
- Changed the timeout method used in the tests
- Added a real value for ICSR register
- Replaced some TODOs with correct error handling
- Added a commit that implements correct write protections for the CR register

Changes from v3 to v4:
- Rebased on top of current master
- Implemented reset functions for the multiplexers and the PLLs
- Added explanatory messages to every commit
- Addded logs for unimplemented registers
- Completed the VMState for the multiplexers and the PLLs

Changes from v4 to v5:
- Abort when trying to set an out-of-bound pll vco multiplier

Arnaud Minier (8):
  Implement STM32L4x5_RCC skeleton
Add an internal clock multiplexer object
Add an internal PLL Clock object
Add initialization information for PLLs and clock multiplexers
  RCC: Handle Register Updates
Add write protections to CR register
  STM32L4x5: Use the RCC Sysclk
  Add tests for the STM32L4x5_RCC

Add the necessary files to add a simple RCC implementation with just
reads from and writes to registers. Also instanciate the RCC in the
STM32L4x5_SoC. It is needed for accurate emulation of all the SoC
clocks and timers.

This object is used to represent every multiplexer in the clock tree as
well as every clock output, every presecaler, frequency multiplier, etc.
This allows to use a generic approach for every component of the clock tree
(except the PLLs).

Wasn't sure about how to handle the reset and the migration so used the
same appproach as the BCM2835 CPRMAN.

This object represents the PLLs and their channels. The PLLs allow for a
more fine-grained control of the clocks frequency.

Wasn't sure about how to handle the reset and the migration so used the
same appproach as the BCM2835 CPRMAN.

the PLLs defined in the previous commits. This allows to statically
define the clock tree and easily follow the clock signal from one end to
another.

Update the RCC state and propagate frequency changes when writing to the
RCC registers. Currently, ICSCR, CIER, the reset registers and the stop
mode registers are not implemented.

Some fields have not been implemented due to uncertainty about
how to handle them (Like the clock security system or bypassing
mecanisms).

Tests:
- the ability to change the sysclk of the device
- the ability to enable/disable/configure the PLLs
- if the clock multiplexers work
- the register flags and the generation of irqs

What's the .valid.min_access_size ?
Do we need to set the .impl max/min access size here too ?

These are input clocks, so they each need a VMSTATE_CLOCK()
line in the VMStateDescription. (I think only input clocks
need to be migrated.)

I think hw/misc/zynq_sclr.c is also probably a good model to look at.

AIUI the way it works is:
 * input Clock objects must be migrated
 * output Clock objects do not need to be migrated
 * your reset needs to be a three-phase one:
   - in the 'enter' method you reset register values (including
all the values that define oscillator frequencies, enable bits, etc)
   - in the 'hold' method you compute the values for the output clocks
as if the input clock is disabled, and propagate them
   - in the 'exit' method you compute the values for the output clocks
according to the value of the input clock, and propagate them

You should try to avoid using clock_get_hz() and clock_update_hz()
when doing clock calculations like this. There is inherently
rounding involved if the clock isn't running at an exact number of Hz.
It's best to use clock_get() and clock_set(), which work with
the clock period specified in units of 2^-32ns.

Consider whether you can use the Clock's builtin period
multiplier/divider (clock_set_mul_div()).

Output clocks don't need VMSTATE_CLOCK lines. (We trust
the device on the other end to migrate its state as needed.)

You don't need the trailing "" in this kind of string
concatenation with a PRIu64 or similar: adding the empty
string on the end of a string has no effect.

Tests using the qtest accelerator shouldn't wait for real
wall time to pass. The system under the test does not actually
run, it only moves forward the system clock when the test
asks it to do so by calling clock_step(). (We have only a few
tests under tests/qtest which need to really run guest code
and so can't use the qtest accelerator. Those may have a reason
for wallclock timeouts, but need to take care because the timeout
that works fine on a fast developer workstation may be insufficient
on a slow heavily loaded server running a CI job...)

Either the device being tested here will immediately
set the flag we're waiting for here, in which case we don't
need to do this loop at all, or else it will only set the
flag after some amount of simulation time has passed, in which
case the loop will always time out because simulation time won't
pass until you call clock_step().

Most device tests don't need to call clock_step(), because we tend
to write our device models so that things that take time on real
hardware (e.g. waiting for a PLL to settle) happen instantaneously.
Timer device tests are the ones that usually do want to see what
happens after simulation time has passed: you can look at
tests/qtest/cmsdk-apb-timer-test.c for a simple example of that.

Can you make sure you include a suitable prefix (eg
"hw/misc/stm32l4x5_rcc: ") at the front of patch subjects, please?

registerfields.h provides macros for "extract a named field", so you
can write this
    val = FIELD_EX32(s->cr, CR, MSIRGSEL);

and these as val = extract32(s->cr, CR, MSIRANGE)
and so on.

As I mentioned earlier, please avoid clock_update_hz() for
clock calculations if possible.

Where you have a device connected to an output clock that produces some
useful behaviour dependent on the clock frequency it is given (eg if
it is a timer device that has a timer count register you can read or
which will fire an interrupt or set a status bit after a certain time),
you can do something like:
 * configure the RCC for a given frequency
 * advance the simulation time with clock_step()
 * check that the device connected to that clock has changed
in the way you expect it to

But you're right that we don't have any handy way to look specifically
at the outputs of a clock-controller to check the frequency they're set to.
It would probably be possible to add one, but we'd need to enhance
the qtest protocol to add a "for the Clock specified by this QOM path,
return the period it's currently set to".

I honestly don't really understand the differences between .valid and .impl.
However, since all the code assumes that 4-byte accesses are made,
I think we can set all these values to 4 for now.

Thanks for the indication.
I have changed the way we handle the reset to have a three phase one.

I have changed it to use the period and the builtin clock_set_mul_div() but I had to discard
the check below that prevents a lot of spam in the logs due to no longer
having access to the children frequency without using muldiv64 again.
Any idea on how to keep a similar functionnality .

The useless trailing "" have been removed for every commit of this patch set.

Thank you for the review and for the tips ! It really helps.
I will address the problems you have highlighted and will send a new version later this week.

Sorry. This will be done for the next version.

It seems really convenient ! Will use them !

This will be changed to use clock_update.

.valid is "what is the guest allowed to do?". If the guest tries
something not permitted by the .valid settings, it gets a transaction
failure instead, which then becomes a bus fault or whatever the
architectural equivalent is.

.impl is "what does my device code implement?". If the guest tries
something that is permitted by .valid but not within the bounds
specified by .impl, the core memory subsystem will try to synthesise
it (eg handling a guest word write by doing 4 byte writes to the
device write function, if a 4-byte write is permitted by .valid
but .impl only permits 1 byte writes).
