[Qemu-devel] Announce: QEMU google-group invitation

Hi,

I have created a new google-group (2) for QEMU. You can access it from: 
http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/

Instead of sending a mass invitation to anyone, I'm asking anyone who 
wants to join the QEMU group there. There are few advantages for this 
group compared to this mailing list:

* Google connection is FAST from anywhere, and I'm pretty sure anyone 
knows this :)
* Very fast search inside the group.
* All the material is backed up and maintained
* Easy to use

I'm not trying to flame Savannah servers at all, but I'm afraid that 
their connection is quite slow and it takes quite time (12 hours) to see 
a message posted from this list. I also think that this list is 
important (specially for attachments, you cannot add attachments to 
google groups 2)

Comments/flames/remarks - are all welcome. You need to register to 
Google Groups 2 in order to post. After you registered, you can post to: 
  QEMU@googlegroups.com

Try gmane instead: it's a mirror of the list, but updates within a few 
minutes:

I couldn't find the google group you created, nor a link to it at the
qemu page linked above.  I simply use nntp://news.gmane.org as an
interface to the list, with the added convenience of auto-expiring old
articles, I have absolutely no issue with working this way.

I'm not sure, even for a project in development, that we should base a
large part of our communication on a service that is still in beta. 
Based on feedback, Google could change the service adversely, or
(unlikely) axe the idea altogether.  All a small project needs is a big
uprooting.

I do, OTOH, observe the slowness of Savannah's delivery daily, and it
could be an irritation if this list grows much more.

Yahoo groups is a proprietary system where registration is required.
I am not interested, why don't you choose freedom?

Hi Jean Michel,

This is Google-groups, not Yahoo ;)

But after someone here notified me about the (way faster) NNTP gateway, I 
don't think google-groups is necessary any more..
