Neat idea to combine the emu with the Q shape.  It would be nice to
find a high resolution emu, this one is quite pixelated.

  Actually, I borrow that picture and do some cut/paste. ;-)
I am a M$ user, and as I said I am not good at such things.
If you guys know what free tool available I can use on M$,
tell me. Or you can just take my idea and make it looks better.

do the "emu" part on the right side, vertically, between the bottom of 
its head and top of its foot, you can shrink the Q part a bit to make 
the emu's body more proportional and leave more space for the "emu" text 
on the right.

Or maybe not include the text at all. After all, there is already an emu
in the icon even when there is no text.

True...larger desktop icons will tend to have the text underneath, and 
for taskbar/url icons there's probably no way to make the "emu" text 
readable...

Plus, if it's just a Q icon you can make a nice big website logo for 
qemu.org using the logo in place of "Q" in "QEMU".

Thanks, that was basically what I was proposing. But on second thought 
it's probably best to just leave out the "emu" text completely.

of the Q starts to look nicely like an egg; but perhaps that's

Thanks, I have added your mascots to my icon / mascot collection
(http://qemu.weilnetz.de/icon/), also in different standard sizes.

There is still a lot of unused space around the image, therefore scaling
of the svg file does not look pretty. By fixing the document properties
in Inkscape, you can reduce the image size and remove that unneeded
space.

Here is the script which I used to create the icons from your svg image:

Which character fonts did you use for 'Q' and for 'emu'
in QEMU_Mascot_embody_text.svg?

It might be interesting to try 'emu' rotated by about -60 degree
(in the direction of the egg shaped body).

If you create the text parts of the image with Inkscape
instead of using a bitmap, it will scale even better.

Yes. I played a little with your svg file, replaced the Q bitmap by a Q text
and added colours. The result is in this file:

It would be nice to vectorize the upper body part to make it more
clean. It should be made a bit bigger to match the proportions of a
real emu more.

The text 'emu' could arc to create an appearance of a round body, also
the Q shouldn't be so round but squashed.

Emus are not green and red. I'd just use black and white, maybe dark
brown for 'emu' text or light brown to fill the 'Q'.

A new version with light brown filling and stroke colour, dark brown
'emu' text and enlarged vectorized emu head can be inspected on
