used by Mediawiki. Look for "Spam prevention" - there are lots of
extensions installed there for that purpose.

This is also a useful mediawiki extension:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ConfirmEdit
It tries to prevent spam bots from editing wiki pages by
using captcha techniques.
