Libvirt will just have to wait, then.  I have libvirt patches ready to
use drive-mirror (for 6 months now) and am working on patches to use
block-commit, but I can't push them to libvirt until qemu has committed
to a stable format for the commands, and I guess we are admitting that
we still aren't stable in time for 1.2.
