For that matter, why use a heavyweight regex, when you can achieve the
same validation with the faster:

char *tmp = strchr(filename, '%');
if (tmp) {
    if (tmp[1] != 'd' || strchr(tmp + 2, '%')) {
        ...report invalid string
    }
