[Qemu-devel] [PowerPC] New board walnut with u-boot

Hi,

i've ported u-boot-1.1.6 and DHT walnut board to qemu-0.9.1 environment.
At qemu side:
- LACK of flash CFI interaction, i2c, PCI support,
- CONTAIN board parameter, serial, emac full support

As result, using tun driver and tap interface, is possible to have full network function up and running.

I've tested ping, tftp, dhcp from u-boot shell and all is ok!
(reach 80KB/sec but with cpu eated by qemu since u-boot !use idle state)
 
Here some spec extracted by u-boot console:
CPU:   AMCC PowerPC 405GP Rev. E at 266.640 MHz (PLB=66, OPB=33, EBC=33 MHz)
       Internal PCI arbiter enabled, PCI async ext clock used
       16 kB I-Cache 8 kB D-Cache
 
Normally at work use clearcase (both UCM and cc) as versioning system.
To integrate the patch, and simplify integration, i need some info
- is the current trunk in use svn://svn.sv.gnu.org/qemu/trunk?
- could i directly deliver such work?

If yes to both question, i'll test in local, check just delivered code, test the integration.

I've prepare the DHT Walnut for U-Boot mainline
(patch send to the U-Boot ML soon)
It will be good the test qemu with it

Oh, interesting.
I want to port Haiku to the SAM440 board, which uses PPC, but also U-
Boot (couldn't they just use OF ?), so I'll need to add U-Boot support
to Haiku, so I really welcome this to be able to test it :)

Btw, 1.1.6 seems quite old for U-Boot...
Do you plan on porting the current one too ?
I will need some features that are still being worked on (the external
API, to use U-Boot as kind of minimal BIOS, to let our bootloader use
it to send serial debug and do disk/other I/O before the kernel is
loaded).

Yes.
patches, and developments in general should be made against trunk, else
you'll have to keep up merging your patches from the old version which
wastes both your and the devs time.

Just post the diff on this list, you'll get comments about them, and
maybe commits if they are ok.

Hi François,

i've just sended a first revisione of file emac.c, understood that is ok, but until now no code is added to svn. Now i'll try with the second.

As you see in e-mail, my port is not all comprehensive of Walnut board, so some little patch in u-boot is needed.

If Haitu port is well done, i don't expect big pb!
