Sad news - QEMU was not accepted for Google Summer of Code 2012.

Students can consider other organizations in the accepted
organizations list here:

http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/accepted_orgs/google/gsoc2012

The list is currently not complete but should be finalized over the
next few days as organizations complete their profiles.

Students and mentors who wanted to participate with QEMU will be
disappointed. I am too but there are many factors that organizations
are considered against, we have not received information why QEMU was
rejected this year.

QEMU will try again for sure next year because Google Summer of Code
is a great program both for students and for QEMU.

Stefan

I've noted this year there are half the approved organizations than last year...

Shame, there is so much to do.

I just heard Haiku is on the accepted list.

Last year a student worked on finishing the VirtualBox guest additions I
started writing:
https://www.haiku-os.org/blog/scgtrp/2011-09-05_vbox_guest_additions_slightly_late_final_progress_report

It should be possible to come up with a project involving QEMU on Haiku
if anyone is interested.
While there is an existing QEMU port, I'm not sure in what state it
currently is.

QEMU proved useful to Haiku developers up to now, cf.
http://revolf.free.fr/beos/quf-haiku-qemu-abstract.pdf

Well, ReactOS tried and failed several times to be accepted without
being given any reason, if that is of any comfort.

François.

The list of accepted orgs is not complete yet, more will be displayed
as they fill out their details in the http://google-melange.com/ web
app.

Thanks François. Just like QEMU was planning to offer libvirt and kvm
an umbrella org, it may well be possible for students to do
QEMU-related projects for other orgs.

Yep, we will definitely try next year.

QEMU hosted on Haiku would be interesting.

The fun of Haiku
especially when it is
hosting QEMU

Haiku is missing a GLib OptionalPackage, and I have so far not finished
collecting all the prerequisites to build it from git - to ./autogen.sh
glib you needs gtk-doc, gtk-doc needs gnome-common or what-not. Also
HaikuPorts, like many of the ports systems, is collecting recipes to
build stable versions and stopping there rather than focussing on fixing
issues upstream, so that the porting doesn't need to be done all over
again... GLib still doesn't seem to have Haiku support after three+ years.

Welcome to dependency hell.
I'm not guilty for GLib, I usually send things upstream.

François.
