Thanks for reproting the issue (leaving boot log context, hw used,
below for context).

I think this might be introduced with 3b4309546b48 ("ALSA: hda: Fix
headset detection failure due to unstable sort") wich landed as well
in 6.1.129.

If you revert that commit on top of 6.1.129, does that fixes your
issue? Would you be able to test this?

#regzbot introduced: v6.1.128..v6.1.129
#regzbot link: https://bugs.debian.org/1100928

The solution might be similar to c6557ccf8094 ("ALSA: hda/realtek: Fix
microphone regression on ASUS N705UD") from 6.14-rc5 (which got
backported to 6.13.6, 6.12.18, 6.6.81 but not yet 6.1.y).

Regards,
Salvatore

In case you need help in trying a kernel build with the revet applied,
I'm attaching the revert patch. With that you can follow
https://kernel-team.pages.debian.net/kernel-handbook/ch-common-tasks.html#id-1.6.6.4
to build a kernel using the `test-patches` helper script to test with.

Is that enough help so we can confirm the breaking commit?

Kuan-Wei Chiu, Takashi Iwai any input on our issue?

Regards,
Salvatore

Please give alsa-info.sh outputs from both working and non-working
kernels. Run the script with --no-upload option and attach the
outputs.

thanks,

Okay sad to hear that, because we need your help to track and pinpoint
the regression.

There was a question from Takashi to provide information from
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1100928#29 and
provide the alsa-info.sh from working and nonworking kernels.

I think that would be the next step.

Get the script: https://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-utils.git;a=blob;f=alsa-info/alsa-info.sh

And if Takashi finds it usefull to test a kernel with a reverted patch
I might be able to provide you prebuild kernel images for amd64.

Regards,
Salvatore

The fix patch would be a trivial oneliner, and even you can work
around without patching via a module option, but I cannot say exactly
unless I get the requested logs.

Thanks. Below is the fix patch.
You can get the same effect by passing model=1043:1271 to
snd-hda-intel module, too, e.g. boot with
  snd_hda_intel.model=1043:1271
boot option.

Subject: [PATCH] ALSA: hda/realtek: Fix built-in mic on another ASUS VivoBook model

There is another VivoBook model which built-in mic got broken recently
by the fix of the pin sort. Apply the correct quirk
ALC256_FIXUP_ASUS_MIC_NO_PRESENCE to this model for addressing the
regression, too.

Fixes: 3b4309546b48 ("ALSA: hda: Fix headset detection failure due to unstable sort")

Please try the patch. If it still doesn't work, please give
alsa-info.sh output again.

if you still have issues to build your own kernel, I have made test
packages with the patc from Takashi available at:
https://people.debian.org/~carnil/tmp/linux/1100928/

(with the offset/fuzz changes needed for making the mapply on 6.1.129
based kernel).

Would be great if you can report back.

Regards,
Salvatore

it is the
linux-image-6.1.0-0.a.test-amd64-unsigned_6.1.129-1a~test_amd64.deb
package for just the patched kernel image package.

Thanks for trying it out.

Many thanks for testing the patch and confirming the fix.

Takashi, assume you will monitor that 8983dc1b66c0 ("ALSA:
hda/realtek: Fix built-in mic on another ASUS VivoBook model") get
backported to all the relevant stable series? TTBOM, it won't apply
cleanly to 6.1.y so Greg or Sasha might not get it down to 6.1.y
witout explicit backport request?

Salvatore

As it has Fixes tag, it'll be backported usually to stable branches,
yes. If it's missing, just ping stable ML.

thanks,

Takashi

Yes right, and in meanwhile it has made the way to 6.12.y, 6.13.y and
6.14.y. I just fear it won't go as well down to 6.1.y automatically as
the change does not apply "cleanly" so might need to make a hint :)

Thanks a lot for your work, I will apply ahead the 6.1.y inclusion the
fix as well in Debian to address https://bugs.debian.org/1100928 .

Salvatore
