I've fixed this locally by backporting commit afc9f65e01cd114cb2cedf544d22239116ce0cc6 "ARM: 8781/1: Fix Thumb-2 syscall return for binutils 2.29+". I'd rather not carry this locally though so would it be possible to get this backported to the 4.9.y and 4.14.y stable series?
