this is is generally useful, perhaps MAKEALL should grow a flag to back up the
generated files with board-qualified names like the log files ...
then your script would be:
./MAKEALL <newflag> powerpc
<copy all generated files to old/>
<apply change>
./MAKEALL <newflag> powerpc
<compare results>
