I recommend using one of the latest git kernel trees. As you are looking for non-platform specific drivers, I would first try the latest stable versions from kernel.org (2.6.22.1 as of today) and then the linus git tree. The guys at LKML don't want to talk about outdated kernel versions and already fixed bugs.
