Hi Maz,

Three answers, none very satisfactory:

1) http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

2) Support for the x86 architecture is not very active in u-boot so I 
don't know how much help you will get from fellow sufferers.  :-/

3) Read the README in the top level u-boot directory, especially...
