Brian,
You are in an excellent position to use "git bisect" now!
Do this, roughly:
$ git checkout master
$ git bisect start
$ git bisect bad
$ git bisect good v1.3.1
Compile and test the versions as indicated.
Then use either
$ git bisect good
or
$ git bisect bad
as appropriate.
Repeat until you have narrowed the search
down to just one suspect commit!
