cfb_console driver is a renderer of the characters and bitmaps
to the framebuffer memory and is not a good place for a shutdown
routine, I think. But we can add a shutdown function to the IPU
driver drivers/video/mxc_ipuv3_fb.c and call it before booting.
bootm code in common/cmd_bootm.c has a weak arch_preboot_os()
function that can be overridden by platform specific preboot
routine. We could define a preboot function in
arch/arm/cpu/armv7/mx6/soc.c
or in
arch/arm/cpu/armv7/imx-common/cpu.c
and call IPU shutdown routine in it.
Thanks,
Anatolij

This series implements a shut-down routine for the IPU Frame Buffer
and calls it through arch_preboot_os() so the display won't be
trashed during the transition.

Hi Eric,
Thanks for working on this. I will try it probably tomorrow.

Please add a commit log description. This is an important bug fix.
With the framebuffer enabled in U-boot, I get kernel hangs at
aproximately 50% of the times I boot a 2.6.35 kernel on a mx53qsb.

Do we really need a new file to store a single function?
What about placing it at arch/arm/imx-common/cpu.c ?

The #if defined(CONFIG_VIDEO_IPUV3) could go outside of the arch_preboot_os().

That occurred to me as well, but I figured this might not be the only
bit that could/should/might be shut down prior to O/S boot (USB?) and
that this would make that clearer.
