You need to run the mkimage utility that comes with U-Boot on the
kernel image files and write the resulting image in flash instead. See
below as an example:
mkimage -A arm -T kernel -C none -a 0x7fc0 -e 0x8000 -n u-linux \
-d arch/arm/boot/Image u-linux
