To support protected virtualization cio will need to make sure the
memory used for communication with the hypervisor is DMA memory.

Let us introduce one global cio, and some tools for pools seated
at individual devices.

Our DMA pools are implemented as a gen_pool backed with DMA pages. The
idea is to avoid each allocation effectively wasting a page, as we
typically allocate much less than PAGE_SIZE.

As virtio-ccw devices are channel devices, we need to use the dma area
for any communication with the hypervisor.

This patch addresses the most basic stuff (mostly what is required for
virtio-ccw), and does take care of QDIO or any devices.

An interesting side effect is that virtio structures are now going to
get allocated in 31 bit addressable storage.

Protected virtualization guests have to use shared pages for airq
notifier bit vectors, because hypervisor needs to write these bits.

Let us make sure we allocate DMA memory for the notifier bit vectors.

Before virtio-ccw could get away with not using DMA API for the pieces of
memory it does ccw I/O with. With protected virtualization this has to
change, since the hypervisor needs to read and sometimes also write these
pieces of memory.

The hypervisor is supposed to poke the classic notifiers, if these are
used, out of band with regards to ccw I/O. So these need to be allocated
as DMA memory (which is shared memory for protected virtualization
guests).

Let us factor out everything from struct virtio_ccw_device that needs to
be DMA memory in a satellite that is allocated as such.

Note: The control blocks of I/O instructions do not need to be shared.
These are marshalled by the ultravisor.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I don't think that's a problem in our case.
If the guest provides an incorrect address, the hardware simply won't
allow the host to access it.

Yes, I will have a look. As you mentioned already, virtio-iommu doesn't
define a way to request iommu bypass for a device so that would have to
be added.

Though to be honest in practice I don't think such a feature in
virtio-iommu would make things easier for us, at least in the short
term. It would take the same effort to define a powerpc-specific
hypercall to accomplish the same thing (easier, in fact since we
wouldn't have to implement the rest of virtio-iommu). In fact, there
already is such hypercall, but it is only defined for VIO devices
(RTAS_IBM_SET_TCE_BYPASS in QEMU). We would have to make it work on
virtio devices as well.

When tag_set->nr_maps is 1, the block layer limits the number of hw queues
by nr_cpu_ids. No matter how many hw queues are used by virtio-blk, as it
has (tag_set->nr_maps == 1), it can use at most nr_cpu_ids hw queues.

In addition, specifically for pci scenario, when the 'num-queues' specified
by qemu is more than maxcpus, virtio-blk would not be able to allocate more
than maxcpus vectors in order to have a vector for each queue. As a result,
it falls back into MSI-X with one vector for config and one shared for
queues.

Considering above reasons, this patch limits the number of hw queues used
by virtio-blk by nr_cpu_ids.

When tag_set->nr_maps is 1, the block layer limits the number of hw queues
by nr_cpu_ids. No matter how many hw queues are used by virtio-blk, as it
has (tag_set->nr_maps == 1), it can use at most nr_cpu_ids hw queues.

In addition, specifically for pci scenario, when the 'num-queues' specified
by qemu is more than maxcpus, virtio-blk would not be able to allocate more
than maxcpus vectors in order to have a vector for each queue. As a result,
it falls back into MSI-X with one vector for config and one shared for
queues.

Considering above reasons, this patch limits the number of hw queues used
by virtio-blk by nr_cpu_ids.

The current gem prime helpers handle this reasonable well,
I don't see a need for that.

More useful would be some way to signal this self-reimport capability
to userspace somehow.  See DRM_PRIME_CAP_LOCAL patch.

Right now I have the choice to set DRM_PRIME_CAP_{IMPORT,EXPORT}, in
which case some userspace assumes it can do cross-driver export/import
and trips over that not working.  Or I do not set
DRM_PRIME_CAP_{IMPORT,EXPORT}, which breaks DRI3 ...

export is implemented for virgl, and import should be possible too.

qxl/bochs is simliar to vmgfx, it could be done but dma-bufs would
basically be bounce buffers (need copy from/to vram) so probably not
worth the effort.

Userspace is supposed to test whether import/export works for a
specific combo, not blindly assume it does and then keel over. I think
we need to fix that, not add more flags - there's lots of reasons why
a given pair of devices can't share buffers (e.g. all the contiguous
allocations stuff on socs).

* [RFC-PATCH] Introducing virtio-example.

The main goal is to create an example to be used as template or
guideline for contributors when they wish to create a new virtio
device and to document "the right way" to do so.

It consists of several parts:

    1. The device specification
        * it can be found in the device header of the implementation
        * it will hopefully be added to the official virtio specification

    2. The device implementation for Qemu-KVM hypervisor
        * it can be found at https://github.com/ybettan/qemu/blob/virtio\
                /hw/virtio/virtio-example.c

    3. The device driver for linux
        * this patch content

    4. A blog on virtio
        * introducing the virtio concept
        * gives some motivation for virtio-devices to be used
        * bring extra documentation on "how to write":

            - device implementation
            - device driver for linux
        * it can be found at https://howtovms.wordpress.com

I export these to be in line with the x86 implementation (which
is the original and seems to be the only one at the moment). I assumed

Honestly, I did not give it too much thought.

For x86 set_memory(en|de)crypted got exported by 95cf9264d5f3 "x86, drm,
fbdev: Do not specify encrypted memory for video mappings" (Tom
Lendacky, 2017-07-17). With CONFIG_FB_VGA16=m seems to be necessary for x84.

If the consensus is don't export: I won't. I'm fine one way or the other.

If we do not need it today for anything (e.g. virtio-gpu) then we can get rid
of the exports (and introduce them when necessary).

Ok.  Lets scratch the DRM_PRIME_CAP_LOCAL idea then and blame userspace
instead.

Several simple framebuffer drivers copy most of the TTM code from each
other. The implementation is always the same; except for the name of
some data structures.

As recently discussed, this patch set provides generic memory-management
code for simple framebuffers with dedicated video memory. It further
converts the respective drivers to the generic code. The shared code
is basically the same implementation as the one copied among individual
drivers.

The patch set contains two major changes: first, it introduces
|struct drm_gem_vram_object| and helpers (GEM VRAM). It's a GEM object
that is backed by VRAM. The type's purpose is somewhat similar to
|struct drm_gem_{cma, shmem}_object|: it provides an commom implementation
that handles all the basic cases. Second, the patch set introduces
|struct drm_vram_mm| and helpers (VRAM MM). It's an implementation of a
basic memory manager for VRAM.

Both, GEM VRAM and VRAM MM, support buffer placement in VRAM and system
memory. Both can be used independedly from each other if desired by the
DRM driver.

Currently ast, bochs, mgag200, vboxvideo and hisilicon/hibmc can use
these helpers.

Future directions: with these changes, the respective drivers can also
share some of their mode-setting or fbdev code. GEM VRAM could implement
PRIME helpers, which would allow for using the generic fbcon.

The patch set is against a recent drm-tip.

* [PATCH v3 01/19] drm: Add |struct drm_gem_vram_object| and helpers

The type |struct drm_gem_vram_object| implements a GEM object for simple
framebuffer devices with dedicated video memory. The BO is either located
in VRAM or system memory.

The implementation has been created from the respective code in ast,
bochs and mgag200. These drivers copy their implementation from each
other; except for the names of several data types. The helpers are
currently build with TTM, but this is considered an implementation
detail and may change in future updates.

	* rename to |struct drm_gem_vram_object|
	* move drm_is_gem_ttm() to a later patch in the series
	* add drm_gem_vram_kmap_at()
	* return is_iomem from kmap functions
	* redefine TTM placement flags for public interface
