Dear Tobias Geiger,

You mean my problem cannot be solved at all (as regards to the yellow 
exclamation mark with NVIDIA Geforce 8400 GS and CANNOT run 3D graphics 
benchmarks)? I _DO NOT_ have this problem back when I was doing Xen VGA 
Passthrough to Windows XP HVM domU with Xen 3.5-unstable. Yes, 3 years 
ago, back in the year 2009, with Xen 3.5-unstable. Back when Han Weidong 
was still around in Intel Corporation.

I am surprised that you are unable to open my Xen VGA Passthrough 
Version 1.6 PDF documentation. I have tried opening the file attachment 
myself and it is not empty.

Dear Teo,

i mean your problem is know, but no known solution exists.
That doesn't mean there is no solution, it just means nobody found one yet :)

It's spoken/written out many places (xen-devel/xen-users) that VGA passthrough 
with nvidia works ok with windows xp, but not with windows versions higher 
than xp. but it works with ati. 

to get to the actual problem:
you could try to also expose the "0xd30...- 0xd307fff" acpi regions.
no idea if that helps in any way i just saw that this is the only region 
you're not mentioning in the patched dsdt.asl

good luck - but please try to accept the fact that nobody _knows_ the solution 
to your problem (well at least nobody i know of).

and about the pdf/wiki - ah... forget it

documentation.

I am now trying out your suggestion, i.e. expose the 4th memory range.
When I refer to David Techer's official blog and his emails, he only 
mention the first 3 memory ranges. When I asked David Techer what about 
the 4th memory range, he said nothing.

Let's hope I get lucky and get the yellow exclamation mark with NVIDIA 
Geforce 8400 GS (ie Xen VGA Passthrough to Windows 8 Consumer Preview 
*PARTIAL* success) FIXED.

By the way, what is the problem with my Xen WIKI? Xen.org administrator 
Mr. Lars Kurth edited my Xen Wiki pages for me.

If it works, I will have Xen VGA Passthrough Version 1.7 documentation 
and FINAL as well.

I have just exposed the 4th memory region, patched dsdt.asl, recompiled 
and reinstalled Xen 4.2-unstable but IT STILL DOESN'T WORK. There is 
still a yellow exclamation mark besides NVIDIA Geforce 8400 GS in Xen 
VGA Passthrough to Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

I still cannot run 3d graphics benchmarks. Only 2d graphics benchmarks 
can run.

Please read through my Xen VGA Passthrough Version 1.6 documentation 
again to see if there are any mistakes. Please. Please. Please. I want 
to fix that glitch. Any more ideas?

I hope some expert engineers at Intel Corporation (Han Weidong, Zhang 
Xiantao, and Ren Yongjie) can fix this glitch with Xen VGA Passthrough 
to Windows 8 Consumer Preview. They are after all the original 
authors/developers who wrote the Xen VGA Passthrough patches. But Han 
Weidong has left Intel Corp, I think. He was still at Intel 3 years ago.

One final request from me: Can you check whether the Xen VGA Passthrough 
patches hosted at David TECHER's official blog are the same as yours?

David Techer told me it's a NVIDIA driver issue, which I don't think so. 
I seriously wonder what's wrong with the glitch. I am using NVIDIA 
driver version 296.17 for Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

Xen VGA Passthrough to Windows 8 Consumer Preview: I can watch Youtube 
videos with audio/sound and surf the internet as well. But I just can't 
run 3d graphics benchmarks. Only 2d graphics benchmarks can be run.

By the way, I have only recently bought this Palit NVIDIA Geforce 8400 
GS at SGD$44. If I buy an ATI card, what would you recommend that is 
CHEAP? Must be PCI Express x16. Then do you think the Xen VGA 
Passthrough patches are necessary any more?

Please refer to the computer hardware pricelist here 
http://www.fuwell.com.sg/uploads/misc/Fuwell240312.pdf and recommend me 
a cheap ATI card. Preferably SGD$50.

Finally, Xen VGA Passthrough to Windows XP Home Edition also has the 
yellow exclamation mark glitch with NVIDIA Geforce 8400 GS. With Xen 
4.2-unstable.

i can only say for sure that it works with a "Radeon HD 6970" - thats what i'm 
using. stay away from dual-gpu cards, they have a more complex pci-bus 
structure which may not work when passed-through.
The newer 7XXX may also work, i also think i read something about 5XXX cards 
working - but don't take any older ones.

If Radeon HD 6970 is guaranteed to work with Xen VGA Passthrough to 
Windows 8 Consumer Preview, I may get it, maybe a few months down the 
road. But it costs Singapore dollars $479!!!

I don't think I may be getting it SOON. My NVIDIA Geforce 8400 GS costs 
only S$44 and I only bought it recently.

If I want to stick with Xen VGA Passthrough to Windows 8 Consumer 
Preview with NVIDIA Geforce 8400 GS, then only Intel engineers Zhang 
Xiantao, Ren Yongjie and Xen developers may be able to help me fix the 
yellow exclamation mark glitch.

Seriously do you think there may be a problem with the MMIO BARs 
pBAR:vBAR 1:1 matching? Is David Techer a software 
engineer/programmer/developer? If not, how is he able to forward port 
Intel's Xen VGA Passthrough patches from Xen 3.5-unstable (WHICH WORKED 
100% SUCCESSFULLY) to Xen 4.2-unstable (which worked only PARTIALLY 
successfully for MYSELF)?

Thank you again for proof-reading my Xen VGA Passthrough Version 1.6 
documentation. If somebody is able to help me fix the glitch, there will 
be a FINAL Version 1.7 documentation.

I am not the author who wrote the original patches. I've just 
tried to maintain the patches I found from Xen mailing-list.  Since 
Summer 2011, I've begun to test Xen VGA PassThrough

- you are thinking that you know everything better than nobody. It works for XP with driver series 
275.XX (againt in the same documentation). So if you want to test Windows XP with 29?.?? that's your problem!
   Stop spamming us with your mails with your yellow mark and Windows XP. This is the same problem for Windows 8.


- you think that because there is a yellow mark on your graphic card on your device manager there is a problem with my patches. I've already test it all series 280.?? or 290.?? before you came with your stupid suggestions.
Conclusion: for Windows XP use driver 275.??

BUY A ATI AND STOP SPAMMING US WITH YOUR STUPID REQUESTS. I THINK I AM NOT ALONE IN THIS LIST WHO IS TIRED TO RECEIVE YOUR  F??CK MAILS.

Hi everybody,

I have already read through the entire documentation written by David 
Techer on his official blog a few times. I just don't think it is a 
NVIDIA driver problem.

May I know where can I download the older NVIDIA drivers like version 
275.XX??? NVIDIA official driver download website only provides the 
latest drivers like version 296.17.

I am just trying to solve a glitch (yellow exclamation mark and unable 
to run 3d graphics benchmarks) and I hope nobody is irritated by my 
emails in my quest to solve the problem.

I've had a working configuration for a few months now with a 4770.

However, this configuration lacks the VBIOS passthrough, so one needs to use VNC to install the drivers.  There is an old patch floating around that does ATI bios passthrough, but it  would need to be forward ported.  That being said, I never cared too much, since I can't use my passthrough'd USB keyboard to do anything in the guest until an OS loads with USB support.

Hmmm, actually, I wonder if seabios supports USB keyboards...

you don't *need* them, no. it works without them.

its just a little more hassle to install your windows until you can load 
the ATI driver. but thats - at least for me - done only once in a 
windows-hvm-domU-guest-lifetime, so i had no problem with that.
