In fact I wouldn't be surprised if some of the same engineers are involved, since a bunch of them ended up at AMD. I'm not sure what oprofile can do with all that lovely rich information -- a big part of the profiling setup on Alpha was the associated always-on DCPI software and its integration int= o the toolchain.
