emacs has a very good built in help system that's accessible thru <CTRL>-<h>
<t>, or if you want to spend $29.95 (US) O'Reilly has a great book called
"Learning GNU Emacs"... The second edition book is sorta centered around
version 19.30.

Does anyone use emacs vie ssh on a winxp machine? The C sequences don't
work right. For instance C-h does not open help. Also the pgup and
pgdown keys do not work either. Is there a keyboard map I can get so
that they keyboard would work the same way it does when sitting at the
console?

I found that with the version of emacs which came with RH7.3 and included
those useless pretty pictures on a bar did not do those things anymore as well
or at all as the older versions, the last good one with RH7.1. So I quickly
changed back to Emacs 20.7.1.

Try hitting the backspace key and se if that doesn't bring up help. Also
control-v is pagedown in emacs and alt-v is pageup in emacs.
