Hi all,

I am new to openwrt and want to look for an ath9k router with a serial port
to kickoff my learning curve. I have spent some time on google but to no
avail.

I hope this is the right list to ask. Can someone please give me some
pointers?

Thanks very much in advance.

Best regards,

Robert

This isn't really the right list. I think you should have looked for
an OpenWRT list instead. This list is about the kernel driver.

In any case I think the Ubiquiti Routerstation Pro looks very nice,
and it's pretty affordable too. It has miniPCI slots so you can pick
whatever radio cards you want.

Felix has improved ath9k and it should function well with hostapd.

In case you ever want to ask for help here, make sure you only buy
the very latest hardware. Atheros does not support anything older,
they usually don't deal with questions with the newest hardware
immediately either, but at least there is a chance then.

At this point I would personally not deal with .11n *at all* and just
focus on 5GHz .11a radios. Maybe ath5k/madwifi-ng, maybe ralink. Try
a few different ones.
