All,

we need your help in regard to the misalignment problems we are trying
to fix right now in order to get facts concerning how many people are actually
suffering from it.

In case you created VGs or extended them with LVM 0.9.1 Beta 6 or 7,
we'd appreciate if you could send us the output (if any) of

   pvdisplay -v /dev/YourPVname | grep "^ *00000"

if the sector offset in the last column is odd.

If so, please add a "pvdisplay /dev/YourPVname" as well.

We appreciate your help!

Regards,
Heinz -- The LVM guy --

Linux kerne 2.4.4 here, with LVM 0.9.1_beta7 patches applied
PV is a 2-partition software RAID-0 device (600 MB total)
VG spans the whole RAID device, and no more PVs
Three LV created over the described VG, 100, 100 and 200 MB each

pvdisplay -v /dev/md0 | grep "^ *00000"
   00000 /dev/Grupo00/Unidad00 00000 512

root@server01:~# pvdisplay /dev/md0

Everything seems to be OK here. Sending all this information, just in
case. Greetings.

What if we have already done this some month ago? Is it enough to avoid
pvmove until everything is fixed? Will there be a tool to fix bad PVs in
use?

It can only have hapend after 0.9.1 Beta 6 came out in March.
My provided one liner test shows you if it is the case then.

> pvmove until everything is fixed?

After it is fixed and your installation is update to the next LVM release
yuu should be able to pvmove PEs to other (temporary) PVs which are created
with new tools and correct alignment.

This is going to be a _major_ PITA here. March to July is a long period. I could live
with a tolleration mode. Everything on my system is in LVM (excepting a small recovery
partition). My largest PV is corrupted...

Hopefully something can be done to make this beta error a little less painfull - Please.

TIA,

Ed Tomlinson
