Has anyone put together an easy-to-install tar file, similar to the old
hard-hat 5.1 tarfile, where you could install everything though an
install program running on a nfs server ?
I really like the old hard-hat approach, it was easy to install and
everything seems to work, but it would be nice to have a newer release.
The old hard-hat install program doesn't work with the new 2.4.0 kernel.

There is a big endian glibc 2.2 debian base - Look at
ftp.uni-mainz.de/pub/debian-local/mips. I hope to produce something similar
for mipsel with the next days.

At this time we don't have an easy installer for it. I intend to strip
down an RH 7.0 installation which I'm running on an Origin here and put
it up for ftp somewhen soon.

Greetings,

Has anyone built slinux on RedHat 7.0, 7.0 patched
to latest GCC, or 7.9x (Fisher or Wolverine)?
I am trying to build it with 7.0 patched running
in VMWare and am getting build errors:

Multiple warnings on "%eax" used instead of "%ax" due to 'l' suffix....

I had to modify the Makefile to point the CC compiler to kgcc.
The is a bug somewhere the prevents the gcc from compiling the
kernel. Redhat has kgcc to compile the kernel. I have a working
somewhat version of the Redhat 7.0. Let me know how it goes
with your try of 7.0

I thought the kgcc issue was only for stock 7.0 and not
for after one has upgraded the compiler? At home, I built
stock 2.4.0 on my upgraded 7.0 w/o any problems....

I'll tgz my VMWare image and try it at home this weekend.....

Another solution is to update your compiler to the latest errata version.
With this compiler, you can get all the optimizations we put into the
user-level compiler, plus it works on the kernel (certainly for Wolverine,
our second public beta).

Out-of the box, Red Hat 7.0 Comes packaged with Kernel headers for a
completely different kernel than the system was released on, if you check
the included packages, the only headers are for 2.4.X, I had to find the
correct headers before I was able to build some things with gcc.

I checked and realized I did not have the latest compiler loaded,
but had gcc-2.96-54. I now have gcc-2.96-69 and will retest.
I'll also check with wolverine....
