Yes alsaplayer work just perfectly in alsa mode. I've just this problem
with jackd.

That work now! :) I use CONFIG_USB_BANDWIDTH, but if i force 16bit mode,
that work. I will rebuilt a kernel without it!

This might be caused by usb-bandwidth checking moaning.
To make things work immediately,
use the alsa driver's -S option:
$jackd -dalsa -dhw:0 -S
If you prefer 24Bits,
you'll have to compile your kernel without
CONFIG_USB_BANDWIDTH and CONFIG_USB_DEBUG.
(If you should use an ohci usb host adapter,
things are not working now by design.)
