Hi,

I don't know what this means, but it's a very persistent error!

Mar 9 23:06:22 volcano kernel: BUG (or not enough voices), number 1, next free 30!
Mar 9 23:06:53 volcano last message repeated 556 times
Mar 9 23:07:07 volcano last message repeated 268 times

Mar 11 00:06:23 volcano kernel: BUG (or not enough voices), number 1, next free 38!
Mar 11 00:06:54 volcano last message repeated 546 times

I am using the latest alsa CVS, with Linux 2.6.11-SMP (dual P4 with HT). My soundcard is an Audigy
2.

Cheers,
Chris

Ugh. That is a bug in the voice allocator. It was thought to be fixed.

Can you provide a method to reproduce the problem?

Lee

Please try a newer CVS checkout (from today or tomorrow). I believe the
"Oops in emu10k1_efx_playback_prepare" bug could have also caused this
error.

Also, the above error message is a little buggy, as the condition does
not always represent an error.

Were you using the wavetable synth at the time?

Also, if you get the error again please post the contents
of /proc/asound/card0/voices.

Yes, I was using the wavetable synth. (Try the game for yourself..)

Cheers,
Chris

OK. I don't have Wine set up, so that's not a trivial undertaking.

But, if this message is only showing up in conjunction with using the
wavetable synth, and never appears with regular PCM, then it's OK. The
synth will grab all the available voices, then if PCM needs them they
are reclaimed.

I will submit a patch to silence it.
