Mantis quirks

When I close an issue, the duplicates aren't closed automatically; I
have to close each duplicate by hand.

Any way to fix this?

Well, I don't think that it's a mantis bug. You may close the similar 
issues immediately after the relationship is defined and leave only one 
open. Then you'll not end with this scenario.
