I'm on an x86 machine trying to cross compile alsa-lib for PPC440 and it
insists on installing to /usr/lib.

My build script looks like:

echo " Building and installing alsa-lib (~1min)"
cd packages/alsa-lib-1.0.11
CC="$CROSS_COMPILE"gcc ./configure --host=ppc-linux
make -s
make -s prefix=$1/usr/local install
        ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
make -s distclean

However, libasound is installed to /usr/lib.

Why is prefix being ignored? What is the correct way to cross compile
alsa-lib?

Lee
