Looks like it makes sound work for many people.

It looks incomplete to me.  I think it needs to be submitted in patch
form, because the Makefile, hda_patch.h, and I think there's changes in
the alsa-driver tree as well.  Plus, there's no apm capabilities in the
patch.

Also, do we know this came from a gpl source?  The header is currently
licensed as follows:

Is it original code or copied from something linuxant.com was working
on?  It looks fairly generic and benign, but I wouldn't want to be
liable.

It would be nice if someone could get the specs (I've been trying).
Even if it requires some sort of NDA (like Sigmatel).

I'll look at cleaning it up a little and making a patch, but I'm not
putting my name on the original code until we can get an official
submission with ownership.

Just want to note that, at present, it doesn't appear legal to update,
include, or even distribute separately this patch, as the source is
marked "NO LICENSE NO WARRANTY".

I'm running a cleanup now.  It looks as though the originator wishes to
include it, but doesn't know who to submit it to or how to submit it
properly.  I'll clean up the code a bit, using other patch_* codec
drivers as a guide and submit a proper patch to the list and to the
originator to get his seal of approval.

I've posted the 4'th test patch to bugtrak #2485.  If anyone on the list
has a Conexant 5047 could test this and email me the results, great.  I
want it to be functional before I post it to HG.

I have received permission from the original author to change the
license and submit it (see bugtrack 2485).  Most of the code has been
rewritten, but I'm still using his original as a guide.

I hope to get this into the tree this week if possible.

Yes, I wrote that before he added this comment to the bug report.  (BTW
ALSA bug tracker is a really... sub-optimal way to do development)

We still need a Signed-Off-By line from the original author, to certify
that he is authorized to release the code under the GPL, and that it
wasn't derived from code or specs that 'fell off the back of a
truck' ;-)
