[-- Attachment #1.1: Type: text/plain, Size: 986 bytes --]

Greetings,

I'm running vanilla-sources-2.6.24.3 with KVM-63 on a Thinkpad T61p running
Gentoo Linux. I'm having some trouble with a corporate rollout of WinXP into
a KVM image. My company uses WinPE in order to do the rollout, after firing
up KVM (via command: kvm -hda $HOME/winxp.img -boot c -std-vga -m 786 -net
nic, model=xxx where xxx was tried for every card listed with the model=?
except virtio; also tried -net none) I see the following sequence of
screenshots:

  http://flickr.com/photos/jieryn/2315169692/
  http://flickr.com/photos/jieryn/2315169632/
  http://flickr.com/photos/jieryn/2315159008/

At which point the system doesn't have any activity for 10+ minutes, and
then I give up and kill the process. Has anyone gotten past this kind of
issue? Or suggestions for what I can try? I've also tried with and without
-no-kvm-irqchip parameter.

Thanks in advance,
-jesse

How did you got the winxp.img? Is it by installing cd over kvm or
v2v /p2v?

Can you try -no-kvm just to see if qemu succeeds?
Besides that, what's the output of kvm_stat once it stuck.

Another thing to check it the qemu bios. run the cmdline with -L
qemu/pc-bios, the is just a precaution to check your using the kvm-63
bios.

My company has a Linux livecd which they use to prime the laptop with, as
the company offers the choice of a Linux installation. I chose WinXP and it
contacts a key server, or something similar, and verifies my right to
install WinXP. After that point, it downloads the WinPE stuff, partitions
the hard drive, and unpacks the WinPE system such that the next time I boot
the system it enters the WinPE environment previously described.. sorry, I
realize that isn't helpful for diagnosis.

Ok, I will need to recompile KVM because I used gcc4.

I'm sorry? I don't know how to gain access to that information. Can you
point me to some documentation?

I don't have any other BIOSes installed other than what KVM provides. Here
is the modinfo:

filename: /lib/modules/2.6.24.3/misc/kvm.ko
license: GPL
author: Qumranet
version: kvm-63
srcversion: 46A7552EE9C00E141A7B2B2
depends:
vermagic: 2.6.24.3 SMP preempt mod_unload CORE2

Thanks,

Ok, I've recompiled with gcc-3 and I used the -no-kvm option. I got the same
result, but in 5x the amount of time. No joy. How do I get at that kvm_stat?
Thanks!

(dethklok) kvm-63 % ./kvm_stat
Please mount debugfs ('mount -t debugfs debugfs /sys/kernel/debug')
and ensure the kvm modules are loaded
(dethklok) kvm-61 % sudo mount -t debugfs debugfs /sys/kernel/debug

then run ./kvm_stat again

What's the error then? You should see the stats with all zeros until
you start your guest. Somethink like:

kvm statistics
