Consider this change to contrib/weekly-changelog-report.py script:
-os.system("git-shortlog --since=%s --until=%s | grep -v \"Merge branch\" | grep -v \"Merge commit\"" % (start_day.isoformat(), end_day.isoformat()))
+os.system("git shortlog --since=%s --until=%s | grep -v 'Merge branch' | grep -v 'Merge commit'|sed -e 's/^ //g'|cut -b -78 " % (start_day.isoformat(), end_day.isoformat()))
It will cut mail to 78 columns so it will be easier to read. Maybe will
also teach contributors to write shorter summaries ;)

I often(but not always) write long summaries for giving info on why I
did it this way to it's easier to maintain...
So If it's better to write shorter summaries...where should I write the
long version?
Denis.

You write a short summary as the first line of your commit message and
the longer description then goes underneath. Both are useful.
Cheers,
Richard

some-package: short description typically 76 chars or less
A longer description of the fix or feature this commit brings to
the OpenEmbedded community, and what it solves, how you
did it, what you would like people to read when they browse
through the commit logs.
