Is the updated firmware for UVD support going to make its way at some point to
the linux-firmware tree[0], as I believe this is what most distros currently
use to get the Radeon firmware?

It is already there. I think there is the usual caching problem with the
cgit interface.

doesn't show it while
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git
shows the radeon firmware commits.
