hi there,

I'm missing a debian package for lvm and since nobody seems to be
working on it, I decided to do it for myself. Since I don't want to
duplicate someone else's effort, I wanted to know if anybody's
already doing so.

Where did you search for a lvm debian packages?
It's already done :-):
   ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/l/lvm-common/
and (IO protocol version 10)
   ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/l/lvm10/

webpage...anyway, forget that then :-)

It's not in woody so maybe that is in the sid (unstable) branch.(?)

You're right, lvm10 is in debian sid, not in woody. As far as I can tell
this is caused by build problems on powerpc and s390. There seems to be
a patch for s390 available, I don't know about s390.

It would be great if lvm10/lvm-common could become part of debian woody.
So if somebody knows how to fix this, please tell!

The bugreport is here:
http://bugs.debian.org/123292

And a complete build log can be found here:

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?&pkg=lvm-common&ver=1.4&arch=powerpc&stamp=1007929763&file=log&as=raw

There were fixes to the way LVM uses the kernel headers for 1.0.2 that _may_ fix
those problems.

And things like the little problem that the LVM tools apparently do
nothing but segfault on sparc since they mix -fPIC and -pg (see
http://bugs.debian.org/123322).

Which was also fixed in 1.0.2
