I want to checkout a u-boot cvs source tree, but got following error:
    #cvs -d :pserver:anonymous at cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/u-boot login
    Logging in to :pserver:anonymous at cvs.sourceforge.net:2401/cvsroot/u-boot
    CVS password:(Enter)
    cvs [login aborted]: recv() from server cvs.sourceforge.net: EOF
what should I do?

The Sourceforge CVS access is problematic. I've seen this in many 
projects lately.

You will have to retry a few times until it works (it usually takes 3-4 
retries in succession).

Wolfgang, you don't have any problems because as a project maintainer 
you have CVS access through ssh which is working fine.

Nope. Of course I tried anonymous access  just  as  the  OP  did.  It
worked fine for me.

I already send an email pointing out that an alternative solution  is
to access the nightly snapshots of the CVS reposititory from
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cvstarballs/u-boot-cvsroot.tar.gz

sf anon cvs is still hopelessly screwed up; this is a known problem,
sf is arbitrarily closing connections depending on load:

The tarball is insufficient because it is just an export of the 
latest, and does not contain cvs metadata (i.e. insufficient
to do cvs diffs, logs, exports from other tags, etc)...

We have enough b/w here that i can offer rsync/pserver access to a
mirror of your actual cvs tree....

But in general sf.net is, urm, charlie foxtrot.

I get this the first time. If you try again immediately after the error it
works. (usually)

I get the same thing sometimes. I just keep trying and after
awhile (4 or 5 tries) it succeeds. Someone once told me it was
because the server is always overloaded...
