Hi, I've been hearing for some weeks now a very high
frequency, quiet crackling distortion when using my
delta44 on playback. This is with driver versions
0.9.8 and 1.0.2.

Symptoms:
* It only occurs on playback.
* It is not always present, but once it manifests
  it is consistent.
* I've ruled out external gear by swapping everything
* It cannot be recorded...i.e. if i use jack capture
while it is happening, and playback on my other
card I do not hear it
* I have been able to reproduce it with alsaplayer
using the hardware layer (so not a jack problem).
* shutting down alsa apps and restarting the drivers
fixes the problem until it reoccurs. It can take
  a long to to resurface.
* Of course, there is no way for me to rule out the
card itself as being the problem.
* Other than driver changes, my system has been
  a rather stable 2.4.21 kernel.

I wonder if there was significant changes to the driver
that someone might suggest an earlier driver version to
try. TIA.

It looks like that something is wrong with DACs.
Does the noise occur on all outputs?

I hope not! I think it occurs on all channels, but have
yet to reproduce it today to verify. I'm thinking about
installing a windows OS and testing there. I've also
noticed immediately after upgrading to 1.0.2 that I get
occasional drop outs on playback...they are not xruns,
at least they dont sound as harsh and jackd doesn't
report them - just an instant of silence.

FWIW, the crackling noise was due to my NIC. I hadn't
noticed it before since my bandwidth was recently
increased by my ISP. I guess its a good thing in some
way.

I'm still getting some bizarre behaviour when running
an ardour session recorded at 44.1Khz. Occasionally
I get a pop and envy24control shows the output levels
constantly maxed out. This doesn't make sense to me
since jack should of already opened the device and is
writing silence. I vaugely remember this being a problem
when I first got the card that eventually disappeared.
That, or I haven't been doing much of anything at 44.1
to notice.
