Has anyone had any luck tracking down a solution to Debian's init and
2.6.4 (and I think 2.6.3) UML? I'm having the same problem.

Mike

FYI, talking with others in #uml it seems that this is a problem specific
to Debian testing's init. Others have been able to boot a Debian stable
image using 2.6.x; but can't do so with a Debian testing image.

Any insight/solutions to this would be very welcome.

Mike

could you post the contents of your inittab ?
maybe it makes sense to compare your inittab with "ours" (i.e. people successfully booting 2.6.4)
i can boot 2.6.4 with my suse9 rootfs

Sure, but like I posted in a previous mail; this appears to be an issue
with Debian testing's init:

...
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty1
2:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty2
3:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty3
#4:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty4
#5:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty5
#6:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty6
...

So Debian's init tries to spawn a getty on each and fails. I'm not using
devfs or anything; again the same debian testing FS works great with a
2.4.24 UML.

What's changed between the init in stable and the init in testing?
Does Debian provide a changelog for the package? In particular, any
references to tty handling?
Also, how could one _downgrade_ to the init in stable inside a
Debian virtual machine?
	Cheers,
	- Bill

Are you sure it is not a problem with the version of getty used?

Can you boot in singleuser mode?

Do you get the console output while the system is booting?

Regards
Henrik

It was determined that this is caused by the new thread system
in the new glibc (which is in Debian testing & Debain unstable,
but not in Dabin stable). If you experience this problem the
easiest solution is to local-loopback the filesystem, go to it's
/lib/tls directory and move it. Doing that solves the problem.
