it may be nobody's loss, but if i get back from montreal in a week and
this list is still filled with mis-encoded email from mantis, i will
be forced to unsubscribe from alsa-devel, after being on it for about
5-6 years. i don't know why ALSA's mantis email is doing this - the
system set up for Ardour and for JACK do not - but its one of the most
irritating aspects of my inbox at the present time and has already
been reported twice.

Paul, which mailer client are you using? I can forward mantis mails to
another list, but I'd like to fix the problem.

I'm using pine here, but with the SpamAssassin filter, thus I'm not sure,
if an e-mail format conversion is on the way.

i use MH. i could change the way it handles encoding, but it seems
unnecessary. there's no reason to be using the "quoted-printable"
encoding at all. it doesn't help anyone AFAIK.

Thanks for hint. I've changed the mailing method in mantis and it seems
that messages are generated more correctly.

E-mail clients are not required to handle MIME, and quoted-printable
is entirely unnecessary when regular text works just fine (and appears
to be the default for Mantis auto-email sent from several other Mantis
systems). This is the kind of nonsense I'd expect from an MS-centric
site, not one at the core of the Linux kernel :)

If regular text wasn't sufficient, I'd be happy to say "I must switch
mail clients", but this would be the only situation I have come across
that would to require this.

Why do you say it's mis-encoded? It looks like valid RFC 1341/2045
MIME quoted-printable to me and my mail reader.

Not mis-encoded, though. That's all I was wondering about.

I have no great love of quoted-printable myself, though it's been
quite a while since I've had cause to notice it.
