Hello,

Today after i dist-upgraded my Debian box, i rebuilt the Nvidia module and saw that on screen
right after:

May 6 10:23:38 kernel kernel: vs-8115: get_num_ver: not directory item
May 6 10:23:38 kernel kernel: vs-8115: get_num_ver: not directory item

Kernel is vanilla 2.6.6-rc3. HW is Dell workstation 530MT, SCSI disk, SMP

I already had that some weeks ago, with a previous 2.6.6rcX kernel but i didn't pay too much attention
after the latest reiserfsck told me that my fs had 0 corruption. Now that i think of this, it was also after the Nvidia
installer so maybe this is a good workload to trigger this. ( Nvidia installer version is 5336 )

Checking the archives, i only found a post on 12/26/2001 with reply from Oleg saying that it looked like a race and
he posted a fix. Maybe this is different but hopefully, this isn't causing any corruption.

Thanks,

Philippe

I guess that warning became obsolete when Oleg <green@clusterfs.com>
added possibility to insert long indirect items.

I got that message a few times (but not every time) while doing
"apt-cache show ...". Can someone tell me what that message means, and
if I should be worried about my data?

Thanks

What kernel do you use?

Sorry. 2.6.4. I might have added some of Chris Mason's patches --
looks like possibly journal-writer, nesting, iosize, but I'm not
entirely sure.

vs-8115 is harmless in this kernel.

then you need to remove it from the code. do so, and send me the patch.

i got this warning on my md0 (raid 0, two scsi drives) array. i've never
seen it before. reiserfsck 3.6.14 (i know, not the latest) didn't detect any
problems. i tried to reproduce it, but i couldn't trigger it. i've never
seen this before.

i found this, which claims to fix it, but it already applied:
http://www.mail-archive.com/reiserfs-list@namesys.com/msg03866.html

i'm running 2.6.8 UP x86 on an opteron, highmem enabled, no preempt.
nothing fancy.
